Want to know more about the Victorian Solar Rebate? We’ve got you covered. Read on for the ultimate guide to the Victorian Government Solar Rebate and how you can claim solar power in the state of Victoria.

If you’ve always wanted to make the switch to solar energy but found the upfront cost too prohibitive, there’s now a solution. Thanks to the Victorian Government, eligible customers can now slash the upfront cost of going solar with the Victorian Government Solar Rebate.

Victorian Government Solar Rebate Helping Victorians Switch to Solar

The Solar Homes program is a Victorian Government initiative aimed at helping people make the transition to renewable solar energy. For residents, the Victorian solar rebate is a great way to save money on power bills and take control of your energy consumption. Plus, it’s also great for the environment as you reduce your reliance on non-renewable fossil fuels.

Across the board, Solar Homes offers eligible customers the chance to install solar panels, solar battery solutions and even solar hot water or heating systems.

The Victorian Solar Rebate in 2021

The Victorian Government has a generous solar panel rebate system to help you make the switch. Not only can you access a $1,850 rebate on eligible solar panel installations, but you also have the option of an interest-free loan with the Victorian Government Solar Rebate.

The interest-free loan matches the value of your rebate up to the total cost of your system. So, if you claim the full $1,850 rebate, you’ll be entitled to an interest-free loan for a further $1,850. If your solar panel installation costs less than $3,700, you’ll basically have no upfront cost. The loan needs to be paid in four years.

Am I Eligible for The Victorian Solar Rebate?

You’ll be eligible for the Victorian solar rebate and interest-free loan if you meet the criteria below:

  • You must own and occupy the property
  • Combined household income less than $180,000
  • Existing property valued less than $3 million
  • You haven’t already received a Solar PV rebate as an owner-occupier
  • You don’t already have an existing solar PV system (replaced systems installed prior to November 2009 may be allowed).

Victorian Solar Battery Rebate

Across Victoria, you may be eligible for a rebate of up to $4,714 for approved solar battery storage installations. If you’ve always wanted to go off-grid and power your home completely with solar energy, this part of the Victorian Government Solar Rebate scheme will help you get there.

To qualify for this rebate, you’ll need to meet the standards set by the Clean Energy Council and Energy Safe Victoria. The great thing about this rebate is it’s processed at point of sale. This means you claim the discount when you buy it, and you just need to pay the remaining balance to your solar battery retailer.

Am I Eligible for The Victorian Solar Battery Rebate?

If you meet the following criteria, you’ll be eligible for the solar battery rebate:

  • You already have solar panels with a capacity equal to or greater than 5kW
  • Pre-approval required from your Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP) to safely connect a battery to the grid
  • The property does not have an existing battery storage solution
  • Solar battery storage must be on Solar Victoria’s approved list
  • You must own and occupy the property
  • Combined household income less than $180,000
  • Existing property valued less than $3 million
  • The property address has not taken part in the Solar Homes Program
  • You haven’t already received solar panel or solar battery rebates
  • Agree to receive information from your DNSP about taking part in battery trials

Solar Panels for Rental Properties

If you own a rental property and want to help your tenants make the switch to solar, there’s an incentive for you too. Obviously, it’s a great thing to do for your tenants because they’ll save money. But it also increases the value and appeal of your home for the future.

Much like the Solar PV rebate for owner-occupiers, eligible rental property owners can receive up to $1,850 towards the cost of a solar panel installation. They’ll also be eligible for an interest-free loan of the same amount, just like the owner-occupier Solar PV rebate.

Don’t Forget the Federal Solar Incentives On Offer

When making the switch to solar and taking advantage of the Victorian State solar incentives, don’t forget about the Federal assistance. The Renewable Energy Target scheme is a national incentive where you can obtain Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) that represent a discount or rebate on the purchase price of your solar panel installation.
